Vertical Jump
In almost all sports, it is important to have a high leaping ability. You're not hopping or jumping off the box; your body should simply fall to the floor. If you do go past this point you will not be training for power anymore and your body will start to use less power, you don't want this if your goal is to jump higher. Being able to squat heavy means that you are able to move a lot of weight very slowly, but the vertical jump is obviously a very fast athletic movement and maximum strength is only of partial use for that.
Physical Training are the exercises you'll do to that require all your energy to get your body to reach its maximum jump height. We can't promise that you'll jump clear over a 7'2†center in basketball like Vince Carter in his prime, but you will improve your vert and explosiveness.
The author, coach Jacob Hiller, also kept evolving the program and perfecting it over time by following new scientific studies and ongoing research to further improve his system and concentrate on the stuff increase vertical jump that is most crucial when it comes to increasing your vertical jump.
For this exercise , you'll use the strength of your torso, hips, and legs to jump explosively. Many athletes have performed squats wrongly, and it could give negative effects on your muscles. Instead, what we're looking at here is what's called relative strength, or strength relative to body weight.
Unfortunately, rather than playing to their more natural plyometric and elastic strengths, these weaker athletes will sometimes put their heads down and strive for a particular lift number that hamstrings (sometimes literally!) their long term athletic progress.
However, to explain the observed difference in the effects of PT between the CMJ and the DJ, we should also take into account biomechanical differences between slow and fast SSC jumping exercises. Do take into consideration that I'm not advocating intense plyometric work day in and day out at the expense of skill, but there is room for including them in an athlete's training when they are lacking in reactive strength or similar.
Getting into the 1RM race as far as cleans are concerned is also a battle that many athletes will eventually lose when it comes to building a better vertical jump. Bet you didn't expect this one, huh?… but the #1 spot on my list for the best vertical jump program this year goes to Vert Shock.
